Woman leads high-speed chase in stolen truck with kids inside — VIDEO

A woman who allegedly stole a truck with three children inside led California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed pursuit from Apple Valley to Whittier on Friday night before being arrested.

The truck was stolen shortly after 9 p.m. from an AutoZone store in the 20000 block of Outer Highway 18 in Apple Valley, according to CHP Inland dispatch.

At the time of the theft, the truck owner’s three young children still were inside, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Cindy Bachman said.

Once the woman realized the children were in the truck, she dropped them off at a nearby restaurant called Tom’s Famous Burgers, Bachman said.

CHP officers began pursuing the woman around 9:20 p.m. on the southbound 15 Freeway in Hesperia, the CHP stated.

The pursuit continued at a high rate of speed onto the westbound 10 and then the southbound 605 Freeway, aerial video from Sky5 showed.

The woman exited the 605 in Whittier, and the pursuit continued on surface streets.

As the truck drove down Newlin Avenue, a Whittier police officer stepped in front of vehicle with his gun drawn, aerial video showed.

The woman stopped, exited the truck and was taken into custody.

She was expected to be booked for kidnapping, auto theft and evading arrest, Bachman said.

The children were not injured.
