The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas plans swanky new penthouse suites

Three renowned interior designers have been hired by The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas to develop 21 new high-end penthouse suites and a private gaming salon atop the 51-story hotel’s Boulevard Tower.

The company announced Tuesday that it is partnering with New York-based Tihany Design and Daun Curry and Richmond International of London to redesign seven rooms each in what will be called the Boulevard Penthouses. Tihany will design the gaming salon.

The company did not announce terms of the partnership, but noted that it’s part of the company’s five-year, $300 million capital investment in the property.

The individual penthouses, each with a unique design, will range from 2,000 square feet to 5,000 square feet and span a total of 63,000 square feet. The project is expected to be completed in late 2016 or early 2017.

“These one-of-a-kind designer Boulevard Penthouses and private gaming salon are the final project to solidify The Cosmopolitan’s position atop the list of full-service luxury properties in Las Vegas,” Bill McBeath, president and CEO of the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, said in a statement announcing the project.

“Our idea in partnering with these three outstanding designers was not to have 21 penthouses painted with the same brush, but to find creative partners who would bring the touches of residential high-design to the hospitality space — the results will be unparalleled,” he said.

The company has not determined a sales price for the suites once they open.

Tihany, operated by Adam Tihany, designed Wolfgang Puck’s Spago restaurant in 1993. He said his interiors at The Cosmopolitan will be inspired by the cities of New York and Beverly Hills, California, and will showcase straight lines, dark wood and abstract structures.

Curry said she is “inspired by the playfully seductive persona of the resort and the glamour and opulence of Las Vegas,” and plans to commission several contributing artisans on the project. Highlights of her design will include luxe pony hair walls, hand-cut Italian glass mosaic murals and grottos where soaking tubs morph out of hand-cut marble.

“Working with the team at The Cosmopolitan has given us the opportunity to create some truly extraordinary penthouses,” said designer Fiona Thompson of Richmond International, which is working in Las Vegas for the first time.

She said two different color palettes, one anchored in teal and jewel tones and the other a vibrant cobalt blue, will give the penthouses a distinct identity.
