First Project Neon disruptions start Sunday

Project Neon, the massive freeway interchange project at the Spaghetti Bowl, will produce its first road disruptions beginning late this weekend.

Starting Sunday night, the Nevada Department of Transportation will begin soil and groundwater testing by drilling 120 holes along the Project Neon corridor.

The tests are designed to ensure the security of the ground for bridge pilings. All work will occur between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., resulting in periodic lane closures through mid-January.

Beginning Sunday night, the right lane of Charleston Boulevard between Martin Luther King Boulevard and Desert Lane will be closed.

Other lane closures:

— The right lane of the westbound Sahara Avenue onramp to northbound Interstate 15.

— The right lane of I-15 between Sahara and Charleston.

— The right lane of westbound U.S. Highway 95 between Martin Luther King and the I-15 interchange.

Project Neon is expected to disrupt traffic for three years starting in March. Other updates are expected to be posted on the Transportation Department's social media sites.
