Business spotlight: Savvy Lingerie

Now that Tamar Ofier, 26, has gotten her feet wet with her store Savvy Lingerie, which opened last September, she admitted she has loftier plans than one shop in Boca Park.

“I want to open multiple locations,” she said. “I want to be the next Victoria’s Secret. I love making women feel beautiful.”

Step in to her shop, 750 N. Rampart Blvd., Suite 5, near Kona Grill, and prepare to be dazzled. Just about everything makes a statement.

The store is done in black, red and white with mirrors and bling galore.

Swimsuits are lined up in a rainbow of colors along one wall. Saucy lingerie holds court center stage along with honeymoon-worthy negligees, corsets and garter belts. Bras run the gamut from functional to meant-to-be-seen styles. One was totally covered in sequins.

The back room is where dresses and outfits — designed for everything from lunch with the girls to a night out on the town — are kept.

Shawn Lane said it’s one of her favorite places to shop.

“She has a cute little store,” she said. “I live in the area and was walking around Boca Park when I noticed it. I looked in the window. … She goes above and beyond. She’ll get something in and send me a picture and go, ‘This would look really cute on you.’ I’ll stop in to look at it and end up leaving with two or three dresses.”

Brands are from Los Angeles, New York City and Europe and include Hanky Panky, Chantelle, Le Mystere, Mimi Holliday, Addiction, Besame, Private Arts, Kamasutra, Baci, Felina, Dreamgirl and Shirley of Hollywood. Special orders are not a problem. Sizes go up to 3X.

There’s accent jewelry to go with it — necklaces and bracelets dripping in Swarovski crystals.

The shop is filled with items for women to wear, but Ofier said about 25 percent of her clientele are men.

“They always ask for help. They want to know what the popular items are, what colors to get their wife,” Ofier said. “We give them pointers.”

Ofier grew up in a retail family. Her father had a shoe store for 30 years at Tropicana Avenue and Maryland Parkway, and her mother owned a women’s clothing boutique called Tropicana Fashions in the hotel of the same name. That store thrived for 35 years, and Ofier learned the business from the inside by helping out. She went to the College of Southern Nevada and got her associate’s degree before deciding to open her own retail store. Her sister, Talia, has a store, too: Desert Rose Florist, in Boca Park for more than a dozen years.

“This center is just growing and growing, so we thought it would be good to kind of be in the same center. It was very tempting to get in here,” Ofier said. She added that Kona Grill patrons often find their way to her shop, so she enjoys its proximity.

Ofier bounced ideas off her parents to see which market segment she should target. Why did she decide on lingerie?

“I love lingerie, and they thought that would be a good idea for this side of town because there’s really nothing like it around here,” she said.
