Sport Chalet begins closing Las Vegas stores
Sport Chalet is beginning the process of closing all of its stores across the U.S., including two in the Las Vegas Valley, its corporate office said in an email.
Store-closing sales started at the open of business on Saturday and will continue over the next few weeks. The two stores in the valley are at 8825 W. Charleston Blvd. and at 7230 Arroyo Crossing Parkway.
Saturday was the final day of operations for Sport Chalet’s online store at www.SportChalet.com.
Sport Chalet gift cards, rewards certificates and store credits will be honored in Sport Chalet stores through April 29. Customers who are unable to visit the store before that date are invited to transfer gift card balances to a gift card from one of their sister stores, Eastern Mountain Sports or Bob’s stores through July 29. To transfer their balance, customers can contact customer service at 888-801-9162.
Any equipment that had been left in one of the stores for repair must be picked up before April 29. Customers are asked to return any rental equipment before that day.
Bloomberg News reported on April 5 that Vestis Retail Group of Connecticut, Sport Chalet’s parent company, was preparing to file for bankruptcy.
Vestis bought Sport Chalet in August 2014 in a $70 million deal that included about $52 million in debt.
Other sporting-goods retailers that have recently filed for bankruptcy include Boston-based City Sports, Pacific Sunwear and Sports Authority.
