Reno woman held in jail after failing drug test dies

RENO — A 25-year-old Reno woman who was jailed last week after she failed a court-ordered drug test died after a medical emergency in the infirmary at the Washoe County Jail.

The Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday that Keely Ann Darmody suffered a medical emergency on Tuesday and was rushed to a Reno hospital, where she later died.

Darmody was booked into the jail on Aug. 18 for contempt of court. She was placed in the infirmary two days later due to medical concerns, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said she was fine when they checked on her at 9:27 a.m. Tuesday. But less than 15 minutes later, they discovered she wasn’t breathing. Emergency staff began life-saving measures and transferred her to Renown Medical Center before she died.

The county coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine her cause of death.
