Woman killed in three-vehicle crash in Southeast Las Vegas identified

The woman who died in a three-vehicle crash Wednesday night has been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Henderson resident Emma Shaffter, 70, was pronounced dead on the scene near the intersection of U.S. Highway 95 and Flamingo Road’s northbound off-ramp. Another driver failed to stop for a red light and struck her Toyota Camry, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

Around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday night, Henderson resident Denis Baldwin, 29, was driving a blue 2014 Mazda CX-5 east on Flamingo Road, approaching the intersection of U.S . 95 and Flamingo Road’s northbound off-ramp.

A black Nissan Sentra and the Camry, were on the U.S. 95 and Flamingo northbound off-ramp approaching Flamingo. The Nissan was in the left lane and the Toyota in the right lane, the highway patrol said.

As the two vehicles entered the intersection on a green light to go west on Flamingo, the highway patrol said the Mazda failed to stop for a red light and entered the same intersection, striking the front of the Nissan. It continued east and struck the left side of the Toyota, according to the highway patrol.

The force of impact redirected the Toyota to the northeast, causing it to cross the center line and strike the left rear of a silver Nissan Frontier who was stopped at a red light on westbound Flamingo, the NHP said.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, according to the highway patrol.

Baldwin was taken to University Medical Center for minor injuries, then taken to the Clark County Detention Center and booked on one count of driving under the influence, resulting in death and failure to obey a traffic control device.
