Magical Forest

The Magical Forest is a wonderful experience for "kids" of all ages. From the moment you enter you are enchanted by the sights and sounds of the holiday season. From strolling through decorated trees and displays to photos with Santa and nightly entertainment, there is something for everyone.

Mystic Falls Indoor Park

This holiday season it will be snowing inside the Mystic Falls Indoor Park at Sam's Town Hotel and Gambling Hall. The park will be transformed with tree-lined walkways covered in lights and holiday decorations throughout. The shimmering centerpiece of this celebration is the Winter Wonderland Spectacular, a new show that takes guests on a magical journey through the sights and sounds of the season. With special lighting, dazzling water ballet, lasers and other special effects, this fanciful collage of festive scenes will awaken the holiday spirit. The show's finale is complete with glistening, gently falling snow.

Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens

Bellagio's Conservatory and Botanical Gardens' Shimmering Wonderland display will feature flying reindeer made of whole pecans, a charming snowman family created with 15,000 white carnations and an oversized wreath adorned with pine cones and a golden bow. In the center of it all, a 32-foot-tall spectacular holiday tree will send gazes soaring while musical sounds of the season will evoke fond memories of home. The display will also feature pink and red poinsettias, four 15-foot-tall grand toy soldiers, giant peppermint sticks and glowing ice bursts and giant holiday ornaments appearing to float mid-air.

Performances now through December 10 feature three of The Divine Miss M's favorite holiday songs, "Cool Yule", "White Christmas" and the holiday edition of "From a Distance. These special shows also feature updated choreography, costumes and video elements topped off by a visit from jolly old St. Nick as he takes the stage with Midler to wish the crowd a merry holiday season.

The holiday songs Midler performs in these special shows can also be found on her holiday album Cool Yule, which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album in 2007. Show goers of these holiday performances will be taking part in history, as this is the first time any of the songs from the Cool Yule album have been performed live in concert.

This holiday season local radio station Area 107.9 will host their annual holiday concert event at the Hard Rock's Joint. Co -headlining the show will be British indie rock band, Bloc Party and rock group Franz Ferdinand. Bloc Party is best known for its hit singles "Mercury" and "She's Hearing Voices" from their latest and third album, Intimacy. Franz Ferdinand's hit single "Take me Out," garnered them international recognition and an MTV Video Music award for their video of the single. Opening the show will be English pop sensation, The Ting Tings and LA based rock band, Carolina Liar.

Music, Plays, Dance
So You Think You Can Dance? Star Catchers Style -- Winter Recital
When: 7 p.m. Dec. 6

Tickets: $5 adults, $3 for students and senior citizens
For the third year, the Winchester Star Catchers Dance Program will host its version of the popular summer Fox reality show "So You Think You Can Dance?" during the winter recital. During the show, members of the dance team will compete for the judges' affections and the audience's votes in various dance genres as well as perform in original group choreography.

Other holiday performances in the dancers' calendar include two performances at the Galleria at Sunset mall. All classes will perform at 9 a.m. Dec. 14 with the advanced class and performing team at 4 and 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 22. Both performances will take place in the mall's lower level in front of Dick's Sporting Goods.

"The Family Claus"

The all-singing, all-dancing comedy drama, written, choreographed and directed by Susan Swanson and Christopher Swanson, revolves around the disappearance of Santa's father and Comet the reindeer just before Christmas Eve. If the whole family is not united for Christmas Eve, Santa would not be able to take off to deliver toys to the children of the world, so as the Christmas Spirit sets out to find the missing, Christmas hangs in the balance.

The musical numbers are traditional Christmas favorites from "Jingle Bells" to the heart-rending "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer."

"Seasons of Dreams" Concert

The "Seasons of Dreams" Concert by the Sun City Summerlin Musicmaker Chorale will include selections such as "Celebrate a Happy Hanukkah," "Christmas Wonderland" and "Carol of the Bells." The show includes about 50 singers, dancers, and musicians under the direction of Ryan Duff and accompanied by pianist Spencer Baker.

"The City of Lights Companion: Christmas Edition"

The City of Lights Barbershop Chorus will present "The City of Lights Companion: Christmas Edition at the Winchester Cultural Center, Saturday, December 13. The comedy bears a loose resemblance to the radio show "Prairie Home Companion, complete with oddball characters and plenty of music and jokes, presented as if the show is being broadcast live on radio.

The show will include generous portions of the all-time Christmas favorites, including "Winter Wonderland, "White Christmas, "Jingle Bells, "Jingle Bell Rock, "Silent Night, "O Come All Ye Faithful and Christmas parodies.

Christmas with the Musical Arts Society

Sagebrush Ranch offers a new twist on Christmas Caroling. Instead of walking and singing, you'll be riding and singing...on a horse! The ranch and horses are adorned with lights and tinsel. Opportunity Village will attempt to break the world record for the Largest Santa Gathering with The Las Vegas Great Santa Run Dec. 6 at the Freemont Street Experience. The Las Vegas Great Santa Run serves as the official warm-up event for The Las Vegas Marathon and as a fundraising effort to benefit Opportunity Village. Check-in and announcements by Mayor Oscar Good and Robin Leach begins at 8 a.m. The 5K run will begin at 10 a.m. as well as a one-mile Kris Kingle Jingle led by Siegfried & Roy. The event will also feature entertainment by local entertainers, Zowie Bowie.

Christmas at Los Vegas Rancho

The park's hands-on history program for children continues with a Christmas at Los Vegas Rancho, the name of the fort in 1860s. Families will enjoy this authentic historical Christmas, and children will make old-fashioned tree ornaments to take home. A living history program will take place when O.D. Gass, an historic character from 1865, visits the Rancho like he did at Christmas many years ago.

Cowboy Christmas

The second annual Cowboy Christmas celebration, featuring carriage rides, music by the Tony Marques Band and a petting zoo, will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, 9200 Tule Springs Road, in the northwest valley.

Cowboy Christmas is sponsored by the city of Las Vegas and Ward 6 Councilman Steve Ross. The event is free.

Children's activities such as face painting and a jumphouse also will be offered. While admission is free, donations of canned food for the downtown Jude 22 senior food program or an unwrapped toy for the local Toys for Tots effort will be appreciated.

The park will host its second annual Pioneer Christmas celebration on Dec 12. Visitors will experience a 1860's-style Christmas with Civil War soldiers, pioneer families, mountain men, spinners and weavers. This family friendly "Pioneer Christmas" celebration will include refreshments, live music, pictures with Santa, Dutch-oven cobblers and campfire marshmallows.

The "Festival of Trees" and a Christmas train scene by the Las Vegas Railroad Club will be on display from Saturday, Dec. 6 to Saturday Dec. 13. The park will be collecting canned food for those less fortunate during this time.

14th annual "Shoes for Children" Benefit Show
When: 5 p.m. Dec. 13 (doors open at 4)

Tickets: Admission is free with donation of one new pair of children's athletic shoes, sized to fit preschoolers to high school youth. (Shoe drive donations also accepted through December 19 at all library district branches).

The Lakes Festival of Lights

The free festival, open to the public, focuses on family fun, with thousands of people joining in. There will be free entertainment, face painters, balloon twisters, magicians, a visit with Santa Claus, arts and crafts shopping, a vintage car show and exhibits. Outback Steakhouse dinners will be available for a donation. The event ends with the traditional electric light boat parade.

"A Christmas in New York" Ice Skating Spectacular
When: 6 p.m. Dec. 13 and noon Dec. 14

Tickets: $8 per person or bring in three canned food items and receive $2 off per ticket with every three cans of food donated. Donations go to the Salvation Army. Children four years of age and under are free of charge.

A Christmas in New York is a themed holiday production show on ice featuring local ice skaters ranging in age from three to 30 years and is a great and affordable way to bring the family together and kick off the holiday season. Join the excitement as memorable holiday scenes are recreated on ice including the New York City Ballet, Central Park, a Macy's store window display and the famous Rockettes.

Santa is making his list and checking it twice, finding naughty tiger sharks, a rare Komodo Dragon and piranha in his sight. This year jolly St. Nick will have a little help from a rather large and toothy holiday helper -- Santa Jaws. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 21 through Dec. 24, children can share their last minute wishes with the traditional Santa in the aquarium's shipwreck exhibit. With each paid admission, children 12 and under will receive a complimentary candy cane and a photograph with Santa to remember this unique holiday experience. During special appearances throughout the day, Santa Jaws will happily swim by to join the kiddies for a photo.
