Locals Only: Insert Coin(s) blends BMX, charity

We’re always on the lookout for ways to feel better about drinking.

This being Las Vegas, those opportunities come around more often than you might think.

Insert Coin(s), 512 Fremont St., is hosting its second annual Hometown Heroes BMX exhibition and street party from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

BMX pro Ricardo Laguna will host the evening of demonstrations by amateur and professional action sports athletes. Donations and raffle proceeds will benefit the Downtown Boys & Girls Club.

After the all-ages event, everyone 21 and older is invited to the after-party at Insert Coin(s). Bar proceeds from the night will be donated to the Downtown Boys & Girls Club.

Eat for a cause

September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and several restaurants at Town Square have announced menu-driven donations to the Cure 4 the Kids Foundation .

Brio Tuscan Grille will donate proceeds from sales of its Wild Berry Lemonade.

Kabuki Japanese Restaurant will donate a portion of proceeds from the sale of all desserts.

English’s Quintessentially British will donate all proceeds from the sale of children’s menu items.

On Mondays, California Pizza Kitchen will donate 20 percent of the restaurant check for anyone who presents a flier, which can be obtained at http://cure4thekids.org/september.

I Love Burgers will donate 50 percent of sales Sept. 17 for anyone with a flier .

Star Catchers

Hey, kids, why don’t you put on a show? The Winchester Star Catchers dance troupe will do just that at 6 p.m. Friday . It will feature original hip-hop, contemporary and ballet choreography performed to music from movies. Catch their act at 6 p.m. Friday at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 McLeod Drive; for tickets ($7), call 702-455-7340.

Homeless benefit

Trey Noran’s “Vegas Giving Back Concert” offers the Supremes tribute Supreme Reflections, John Brooks’ Elvis and others dedicated to opening a downtown food pantry and work resources center.

Tickets are $38 for the 3 p.m. Saturday concert at the Wolf Theatre in the Clarion, 305 Convention Center Drive.

Beach Boys

Bust out your most garish Hawaiian shirt for a free Beach Boys’ show at 6 p.m. Monday at South Point Arena, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Call 702-331-1350.
