Michael Grimm remains earthy and eclectic

Wouldn’t a major-label album helmed by star producer Don Was be considered the album Michael Grimm has been “designing and building his entire career”?

Apparently not. The self-titled 2011 album failed to put the earthy “America’s Got Talent” winner into the big leagues. Now, a Kickstarter pitch to fund the upcoming “Generation Next” album promises to be “more eclectic and diverse” than the “specific path” Epic Records steered him down.

In the meantime, Grimm carries on as one of Las Vegas’ most honest, down-to-earth voices, steeped in his Louisiana and Mississippi roots. Local fans know he’s already eclectic and diverse, able to sing by himself in a restaurant or to crank up Southern rock with a full band and horn section.

Saturday brings him back for another date in a relatively new venue, the cozy supper club Ron Decar’s Event Center.
