Nievera helps typhoon victims

The Philippines can use a goodwill ambassador these days, but that’s a role Martin Nievera has always been willing to play.

The 51-year-old singer recently celebrated 30 years in show business and has turned some celebrations into benefits for typhoon relief.

Once known as the “Concert King” of the Philippines in the 1980s, Nievera grew into a TV host and versatile showman in the tradition of his father, Roberto, an original member of the variety band Society of Seven.

On any given day, Nievera’s baritone will serve up Broadway hits, Sinatra-era standards or songs he has written.

Safe to say in December, the set list will have a few Christmas standards.
