Will dance the role of Lady Capulet next weekend in NBT’s production of “Romeo and Juliet.” ... Born in Kanab, Utah, but grew up in Flagstaff, Ariz. ... Began dancing at 10 after her doctor prescribed ballet lessons to ease back problems (her mother called it “the most expensive doctor’s visit she ever had, with all the pointe shoes she had to pay for after that”). ... Earned a fine arts degree as a dance major at the University of Arizona. ... Joined NBT in 2004. ... Spends summers as a Grand Canyon river guide. ... Favorite pieces include NBT Artistic Director James Canfield’s “Cyclical Night.” ... Least favorite role: “Dead Girl” in “Dracula” (as a trainee, in her first role with NBT).
On ballet and river guiding:
“I think dancing and boating are so incredibly similar because of the relationship that I have to movement. In a dance, I have the music and my partner and my shoes and my costume all coming together to create the art of movement that I love. And, on the river, I have my boat on the water and the waves and the sounds that go along with that and the beauty of the place, and it kind of creates that same kind of love of movement.”
