‘Vegas Rat Rods’ earns second season

Prepare to see a lot more hulking, rusty beasts on local roads in the coming months: Discovery Channel has ordered a second season of “Vegas Rat Rods.”

The series follows Vegas native Steve Darnell and his crew at Welder Up as they turn cars others have given up on into “Mad Max”-style rolling works of art, complete with designer touches such as prison-style electric chairs for seats or mason jars for taillights.

According to Discovery, season two promises a new shop, “bigger and badder builds” and more Las Vegas as Darnell and his team members hit the Strip and suburban streets.

“One of my cars makes almost a thousand horsepower, and it looks like it don’t even move,” Darnell told the Review-Journal in May, shortly before the series premiered. “And it will blow your doors off and scare the (excrement) out of you and make you want to go home and pee your pants. That’s how aggressive and scary it is.”

The 10-episode season will debut in 2015 as part of Discovery’s Motor Mondays programming block.
