Latest DVDs, CDs, books: June 26

A look at some of the DVDs, CDs and books hitting stores this week:

DVDs

"The Artist" (PG-13): This silent-movie ode to old Hollywood, about a movie star (Jean Dujardin) fearing the arrival of talkies, won five Academy Awards, including best picture, best director for Michel Hazanavicius and best actor for Dujardin.

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, Eddie Murphy also stars as a man afraid to talk, because he's been limited to 1,000 words for the rest of his life, in the comedy "A Thousand Words" (PG-13).

Elsewhere, Perseus (Sam Worthington) is called back into action to stop his grandfather Chronos from destroying the world in the sequel "Wrath of the Titans" (PG-13); Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum go back to school in the comedic big-screen take on "21 Jump Street" (R); and, not to be confused with "Snow White and the Huntsman," Julia Roberts stars as the wicked queen to Lily Collins' Snow White in "Mirror Mirror" (PG).

Topping today's TV transfers: "Damages: The Complete Fourth Season," "Law & Order: Criminal Intent: Year Seven," "Agatha Christie's Poirot: Series 5" and "Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns: Season 6."

CDs

Linkin Park, "Living Things": On their last record, Linkin Park abandoned guitars for electronics - and consequently, CD buyers abandoned them, resulting in the band's lowest-selling disc.

This time around, they're getting back to basics. And by "basics," we mean a moody hard rock snarl that emanates from a group of sweaty dudes rather than machines.

Also in stores: Beachwood Sparks, "The Tarnished Gold"; Blues Traveler, "Suzie Cracks the Whip"; Chris Cagle, "Back in the Saddle"; Everclear, "Invisible Stars"; Everest, "Ownerless"; Gojira, "L'Enfant Sauvage"; Henry Clay People, "Twenty-Five for the Rest of Our Lives"; Joe Jackson, "The Duke"; Julian Plenti, "Julian Plenti Lives ..."; R. Kelly, "Write Me Back"; Kenny G & Rahul Sharma, "Namaste"; Aaron Lewis, "The Road"; Little Feat, "Rooster Rag"; Maroon 5, "Overexposed"; and The Offspring, "Days Go By."

BOOKS

"Between the Lines" by Jodi Picoult and Samantha Van Leer: The best-selling author teams up with her teen daughter for this young adult novel in which 15-year-old Delilah McPhee finds a real prince charming living in the pages of a fairy tale.

On the nonfiction front, Mitch Winehouse sheds light on his daughter's successes and struggles in "Amy, My Daughter."

Also hitting shelves: "The Age of Miracles" by Karen Thompson Walker; "Bloodline" by James Rollins; "A Farewell to Charms" by Lindsey Leavitt; "Heartbroken" by Lisa Unger; "The Macharian Crusade: Angel of Fire" by William King; "Sky Dragons: Dragonriders of Pern" by Anne McCaffrey and Todd J.
