SUMMERLIN PLANS NEW VILLAGE

Summerlin is set to break ground on a new village, The Cliffs, within the southernmost tip of the 22,500-acre community and at the foot of the Spring Mountains, just south of Bishop Gorman High School. This will be the master-planned development’s 20th village and the first new one in more than 12 years.

It eventually will feature 11 neighborhoods and more than 1,700 homes, including Regency, a luxury, age-qualified community by Toll Brothers slated to begin construction in June. The approximately 450-acre village currently encompasses Wet‘n’Wild Las Vegas and Faiss Middle School. The public aquatic center in Faiss Community Park began construction in April.

“This is an extraordinary parcel of land in a highly desirable region of the community near an abundance of community amenities, conveniences and the 215 Beltway,” said Kevin T. Orrock, president of Summerlin. “We are excited to celebrate in style the groundbreaking of Summerlin’s first village in more than 12 years — a sure sign of the valley’s continuing economic recovery and the ongoing realization of the Summerlin master plan.”

ROSEMAN UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES LAND PURCHASE

Roseman University of Health Sciences has announced it has purchased 3.5 acres of land at the corner of South Hualapai Way and Discovery Drive from The Howard Hughes Corp. for $3.1 million.

The purchase of the land parcel completes Phase I of Roseman’s Summerlin Campus Master Plan, which already includes 9.25 acres of adjacent undeveloped land, the Flagship building and the Ralph & Betty Engelstad Cancer Research building of the former Nevada Cancer Institute.

The Summerlin campus is home to Roseman University’s M.D.-granting College of Medicine, which is progressing through the accreditation process with the goal of enrolling its first class of 60 medical students in fall 2017.

“We are delighted to work with The Howard Hughes Corp. to further expand our campus footprint as we continue to develop a premier College of Medicine in Summerlin,” said Roseman University President Renee Coffman. “Along with the combined 327,000 square feet of office, research, clinical and multi-use space in the Flagship and Engelstad buildings, 12.75 acres of prime, undeveloped land allows us to plan for Phase II, which may include additional facilities for medical education, research and student services to be developed as the College of Medicine grows.”

Roseman’s medical research programs focus on diabetes and obesity, cancer, Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular disease, and adult stem cell and regenerative medicine.

FOSTERS NEEDED FOR FUPI ANIMALS

Foreclosed Upon Pets Inc. is in urgent need of foster families for rescued dogs and cats. Fostering plays a major role in the success of the organization. In many circumstances, the animals have come from harsh backgrounds, have been abandoned or have lost their home through no fault of their own.

The foster’s main responsibility is to offer the dog or cat a safe and secure environment. The foster will offer a nurturing background, possibly provide some basic training and consequently help to make the animal a better candidate for adoption.

For more information, contact FUPI at forecloseduponpets@hotmail.com or 702-272-0010.
