Here’s where you can celebrate Free Comic Book Day in Las Vegas on Saturday

Considered by many to be the comic book lovers’ Super Bowl, Free Comic Book Day is finally here.

According to the organizers, Free Comic Book Day is “a single day when participating comic book specialty shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their shops.”

The event, which is held annually on the first Saturday of May, is taking place this Saturday and several stores in Las Vegas are participating.

Here’s where you can celebrate Free Comic Book Day this weekend in Las Vegas:

Alternate Reality Comics — 4110 S. Maryland Parkway, #8

In addition to free comics, Alternate Reality’s Free Comic Book Day celebration will also include local artists, a zombie hot dog truck and a raffle to win a Deadpool painting, the store said on Facebook.

Cheese Boy Comics — 8060 S. Rainbow Boulevard, #125

If you’re heading to Cheese Boy Comics, you may want to dress as your favorite superhero, because the comic shop is holding a costume contest in addition to offering free books, FreeComicBookDay.com reported.

Cosmic Comics — 3830 E. Flamingo Road, Suite F-2

Cosmic Comics is going all out for Free Comic Book Day by hosting an all-day long party.

Not only does the store plan to give away more than 10,000 comic books, which will range between 40 different titles, but the store will also have face painters on hand to help kids and kids at heart look a little more like their favorite comic book characters, the store said.

Likewise, several local artists will also be in attendance providing guests with free sketches throughout the day.

If that wasn’t enough, for every $25 spent, shoppers will be entered into a raffle to win Batman Adventures #12 — otherwise known as the first appearance of Harley Quinn. For those that want an extra chance at winning, Cosmic will give a bonus raffle ticket to anyone cosplaying as Harley Quinn or any other member of the Suicide Squad.

The early bird will truly get the worm at Cosmic, as anyone in line when the store opens at 9 a.m. will receive double the free comics and a free raffle ticket into the drawing.

Maximum Comics — multiple locations throughout the valley

Maximum Comics is getting in the Free Comic Book Day spirit by holding events at all four of its valley locations. Free comics, cosplayers and sketch artists will be available at each location. However, the Tropicana and Fort Apache store will have a “Back to the Future” theme complete with a Delorean on-site, Maximum Comics said in a Facebook post.

Velvet Underground Comics & Collectibles — 4241 W. Charleston Boulevard, Suite H

In addition to free comics, the creator of the “Zombie Tramp” comic series, Dan Mendoza, will be in attendance at Velvet Underground to sign autographs and sketch covers. The store has also paired with Mendoza to host a costume contest based on characters from his series, Velvet Underground said on Facebook. Free Comic Book Day festivities will run from noon to 5 p.m.
