This week’s 5 best bets for arts & culture in Las Vegas

Fendika

When it comes to world music, why stop at song when you can have song and dance? That’s the ticket for the seven-member Ethiopian group Fendika, which features two dancers, two singers and instrumentalists — performing on kebero drums, a one-string masenko fiddle and a lyrelike krar — at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive; for tickets ($10 in advance, $12 on concert day), call 702-455-7340 or click on www.ClarkCountyNV.gov/parksregistration.

All that jazz

It’s a double triple (or is that a triple double?) as two local jazz trios, the Sharps and the Jozef Bobula Trio, headline a free jazz concert featuring styles from Latin and swing to bossa nova and boogaloo. The music starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Police Memorial Park, 3250 Metro Academy Way; call 702-229-3514 or visit www.artslasvegas.org for details.

Asian Heritage Festival

Autumn’s arrival — and various Asian cultures — inspire the annual Asian Heritage Celebration at Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd. Along with taiko drumming and other traditional music, a children’s drum parade, cooking demonstrations, mask-making, a tea ceremony and more are on the menu from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. For tickets ($3 children ages 3 to 12, $5 for adults), call 702-822-7700 or visit www.springspreserve.org.

Lucky Peterson

What’s in a name? Lucky Peterson titled one of the songs on his “Son of a Bluesman” album “Blues in My Blood” — and he’ll demonstrate his triple-threat talents as guitarist, organist and vocalist at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in The Smith Center’s Cabaret Jazz; for tickets ($39-$59), call 702-749-2000 or visit www.thesmithcenter.com.

Chamber Music at UNLV

UNLV’s venerable Performing Arts Center launches its 41st season with the fifth season of the UNLV Chamber Music Series, as faculty members perform the music of Italy, Spain and Argentina at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Doc Rando Recital Hall, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway. For tickets ($25), call 702-895-2787 or go online to www.unlv.edu/pac.
