City of Henderson honored by American Planning Association

A public outreach initiative headed by the city of Henderson was recognized for its efforts by the American Planning Association on Monday.

The association presented its annual National Planning Excellence Award for Public Outreach to Southern Nevada Strong during a conference in Phoenix.

“We are honored to be recognized by the American Planning Association for our outreach and overall engagement efforts on behalf of the Southern Nevada Strong regional planning effort,” project director and Henderson Director of Community Development Stephanie Garcia-Vause said in a statement.

Southern Nevada Strong received the award for breaking down “long-entrenched municipal barriers,” and creating “a regional vision,” the association said on its website.

Southern Nevada Strong, led by the city of Henderson, consists of 13 regional partners in the valley was funded by a $3.5 million Sustainable Communities Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Transportation.
