Coroner identifies scooter driver killed in hit and run crash

The Clark County coroner on Sunday has identified the man who died after a hit and run and DUI crash in the southwest valley on July 23.

Just after 10:30 p.m., Petro Demetruc Jones, 40, of Montgomery, Illinois, was driving a scooter on West Russell Road, near South Rainbow Boulevard, when the driver of a 2007 Toyota Sequoia who was traveling behind him crashed into the back of his scooter, police said.

Jones and his scooter were pushed more than 175 feet before Jones was separated from the scooter and came to a stop, police said. Then, he was hit by another car, possibly a Nissan Sentra, which left the scene.

Jones was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Anyone with information about the vehicle that fled the scene can call Metro’s accident investigation section at 702-828-3786 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
