Coroner IDs body found at Las Vegas Academy

The Clark County coroner's office has identified the man whose body was discovered Monday morning at Las Vegas Academy.

Phongsavanh K. Phimvongsa, 47, of Las Vegas, hanged himself, coroner's office staff said Tuesday.

Las Vegas Academy staff members found the body at about 5:30 a.m. near the magnet school's portable classrooms, on East Bridger Avenue and South Seventh Street, before students were able to see him, officials said.

It doesn't appear that Phimvongsa was connected to the school or to the Clark County School District, spokeswoman Melinda Malone said Tuesday.

Crisis counseling was available on campus until it was no longer needed, Malone said. It wasn't immediately clear how many people, if any, took advantage of it.
