Driver of van that killed 2-year-old girl located

The driver of the van that may have killed 2-year-old Evelyn Green on Sunday was located along with the vehicle Tuesday, according to North Las Vegas Police.

"We have not concluded if the van is the striking vehicle," North Las Vegas Police spokesman Aaron Patty said. "But we are confident it is the van seen in the area of the crash."

The van was located Tuesday in the "general area" of the crash "thanks to the media and citizens who diligently reported vehicles possibly matching the description," a news release said Tuesday.

What the release did not say is that the driver was also located and is cooperating with the investigation, according to Patty. No one has been taken into custody and "the investigation is still broad," he added Thursday. "We are not focusing on one piece of evidence. There are a lot of angles."

Police received the call about 5:45 p.m. Sunday. Officers arriving at the scene in the 3400 block of Thomas Avenue near Lake Mead Boulevard and Pecos Road learned that Green was struck and killed by a white van without side windows. The driver of the van fled the scene after hitting the child. The girl's parents took her to North Vista Hospital where she later died.

The van has been taken into custody for forensic review.
