A man is dead after a Saturday night altercation at an apartment complex near the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, police said.

The man was armed with a knife when he approached a group of people at the Andover Place Apartments, 1600 Rochelle Ave., near the intersection of Maryland Parkway and Flamingo Avenue, Metro officer Michael Rodriguez said Monday morning.

The group was able to “subdue” the man before police arrived. He was unknown to the group of people, Rodriguez said.

The man was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he later died.

His identity and cause and manner of death will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Metro’s homicide section responded to the call, Rodriguez said.
