Residents displaced after house fire in southwestern valley

A fire damaged the first floor of a home in the southwestern Las Vegas valley Sunday night.

At 5:18 p.m., firefighters from Las Vegas Fire and Rescue responded to 120 Lucy Thompson St., near Jones Boulevard and U.S. 95.

When they arrived, flames and smoke were visible from the first floor of the two-story home, and the rest of the house was "full of black smoke," the department said in a release.

Firefighters were able to get the fire "under control in less than ten minutes," and prevented it from spreading upstairs, the release said. Most damage was confined to the living room and kitchen. The rest of the house, including the exterior, had smoke and heat damage, the release said.

A teenager present when the fire started escaped to a neighbor's house to call and report the fire, the release said.

No injuries were reported. Damage cost has not been estimated, and the cause of the fire is unknown.

The residents of the house have been displaced by the fire, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue Public Information Officer Tim Szymanski said.

No further information was immediately available.
