Arizona man arrested in connection with death of 23-year-old

A Kingman, Ariz., man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 23-year-old man after a suspected drug overdose was determined instead to be a homicide.

The Mohave County Medical Examiner ruled that Matthew Scott Porter, 23, died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Deputy Kingman Police Chief Rusty Cooper said Porter was found dead in a home of the 500 block of Windsor Avenue when officers responded to a call regarding an unresponsive male on May 19. Cooper said the investigation revealed that Porter had been assaulted the previous day by David Allen James, 33.

James was arrested Tuesday on charges of second-degree murder.

According to Cooper, James was recently released from prison where he served time for fraud and theft.
