Floyd Mayweather Jr. posts fight poster teasing bout with McGregor

Anyone who still believes a fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor is imminent had to be disheartened by the superstar boxer’s Instagram post on Sunday night.

During a televised Ultimate Fighting Championship event, Mayweather released an image of a poster to tease the potential blockbuster fight between him and UFC superstar Conor McGregor.

While the apparent intent was to further tease the possibility of the fight getting closer to becoming a reality, the sheer ridiculousness of the poster may have had the opposite effect.

There was no date or venue on the poster, which was sloppy and appeared to be hastily put together.

The amateur design made little sense for a bout that could potentially be one of the most lucrative in the history of combat sports.

It also did not include any official UFC imaging. Mayweather’s poster had the logos of his Money Team and his promotions company, along with CBS and Showtime.

McGregor is wearing a UFC belt and has the company’s logo on his shorts and gloves, but nothing in an official capacity. The UFC would almost certainly have to be involved as a co-promoter of the bout if it were to happen as McGregor is under a long-term contract with the organization.

If he were planning to circumvent the organization and potentially challenge his contract in court for the right to take the fight against Mayweather, it would make little sense to have him wearing the UFC belt or uniform in the promotional materials.

The fight wasn’t happening before the leaked poster and there is nothing about it that should make anyone change their mind about the possibility of it happening now.
