Former champ St. Pierre once again hints at UFC return — VIDEO

One of the biggest stars in Ultimate Fighting Championship history is set to make a comeback.

Maybe.

Former welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre continued his public flirtation with a return to action this week when he appeared on camera during a Toronto Raptors broadcast on TSN to promote a new television show he is working on in Canada.

At the end of the interviewer, the sideline reporter asked St. Pierre if he would ever consider fighting again.

“I’m on good terms with the UFC, we’re talking,” St. Pierre said with a smile. “Everything is possible, but I don’t know right now. I can’t tell you everything. I have to keep some secrets.”

The 34-year-old walked away from the sport after successfully defending his title with a split decision win over Johny Hendricks in 2013.

He has won his last 12 fights. At the time, St. Pierre cited both personal and professional issues. He very publicly criticized the organization for a lack of a cohesive drug policy, which was addressed when the UFC partnered with the United States Anti-Doping Agency last year.

While St. Pierre has offered vague hints at a comeback, several of his coaches have been more definitive. Both head trainer Firas Zahabi and striking coach Freddie Roach have said in recent interviews they expect St. Pierre, who has been back in the gym regularly for some time, to compete again.

Current welterweight champion Robbie Lawler does not currently have a fight booked.

There has been much speculation UFC officials have held off on scheduling a fight in hopes of luring St. Pierre out of retirement at the historic UFC 200 card on July 9 at T-Mobile Arena to challenge for the belt.
