Nevada fishing report, Aug. 27, 2015

LAKE MEAD — The high heat and winds kept many off the lake last week, but for those who did venture out, swimbaits in the 3- to 4-inch size worked well. Pink Spinnows lures also brought in several fish. No reports of any big fish, but 1 to 3 pounds were fairly regular for stripers.

LAKE MOHAVE — Catfish action has been good at Willow Beach, as well as several other locations throughout the lake. The striper bite has picked up in the lake between Cottonwood Cove and the power lines, with evenings being the best time for hooking up.

LAUGHLIN — High temperatures and winds have kept all but the hardy off the water. Stripers and catfish are still biting from Davis Dam down to the border and taking mostly cut anchovies. One angler caught several nice catfish, with two weighing in at 9.68 and 10.06 pounds, using night crawlers.

LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS — Bluegill and largemouth bass are still hitting well in most of the ponds. Channel catfish are expected to be stocked this week in all urban ponds.

KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA — High temperatures and afternoon winds are keeping many people off the area. The aquatic vegetation is still causing problems for anglers and boaters, but with overnight temperatures predicted to start dropping, the trout should start picking up.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR — Fishing has been improving, with rainbows in the 10- to 12-inch range taking small spinnerbaits for anglers from boats. Those using baits did well using orange or green Powerbait with a salmon flavoring from all areas of the lake. The aquatic vegetation is starting to show signs of decreasing with the overnight temperatures dropping into the mid 30s, and the park expects to start pulling the weed mats around the boat dock before Labor Day.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR — Fishing has improved, with more trout being taken mostly with Powerbait in green or orange coloration because of lowering water temperatures. The bass and crappie are still hitting but not until later morning hours as the water warms up.
