Bryce Harper turns down fan’s prom invite
After leaving Las Vegas High School after his sophomore year to get on the fast track to the majors, Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper missed out on going to the prom.
Invited to the 2016 prom Thursday by a fan who brought a homemade sign to Pittsburgh's PNC Park to pop the question, the 22-year-old Harper politely declined. But he still gave the girl wearing Nationals and Pirates gear a thrill, delivering an autographed ball that said, "I hope you have a blast & enjoy it. ... Many blessings."
The Nationals posted her surprised reaction on Twitter, writing "He can't make it...but still hopes you have a blast!"
From taking selfies on fans' phones to classy gestures like this one, Harper, who is tied for the National League lead in homers (27), keeps belting them out of the park this season.
