Literary Las Vegas: Anais Thomassian

Don’t let the title lull you — though children play a prominent role in many of the tales in “Baby Juice,” Anais Thomassian’s collection of short stories and poetry is not for kids. Best known as her alter-ego Penny Pibbets in the acro-cabaret variety show “Absinthe” at Caesars Palace and in “The Penny Pibbets Show,” Thomassian’s book explores macabre humor in everything from apocalypse and alien invasion to cannibalism, infidelity and balloon artistry. For more on the artist, follow her on Twitter @pennypibbets.

Excerpt:

The Devil and Death

He knocks, politely

They share a cup of tea.

“Your roses look incredible!

what is your secret?” asks one

“Fertilizer.” says the other

They laugh about the weather,

the election,

the war,

until the wee hours.

The crumb cake long finished.
