CITY LAUNCHES BUSINESS PORTAL

The city of Las Vegas recently launched an online business portal at lasvegasnevada.gov.

Companies with a city business license can now conduct licensing and renewals through a personalized online account. Among the services offered are permit applications, document uploading, reporting and payment of gaming licenses and more. The system is set to be expanded in the future.

The system allows 24-hour access and payments and changes the deadline for many transactions from 5 p.m. to midnight.

YOUTHS MAY APPLY FOR SUMMER JOB PROGRAM

Applications are due by 5 p.m. Feb. 28 for the summer 2014 Summer Business Institute, a paid internship program for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors.

Internships are available in several fields, including medicine, architecture, education and communications. The program is a partnership among Clark County, the Clark County School District and more than 80 area businesses.

Participants are set to be paid $8.25 an hour to work eight-hour days, Monday through Thursday. The students are set to attend seminars on Fridays to learn financial management, life skills and civic engagement. All participants may be eligible for college scholarships at the close of the program.

Students requiring assistance completing the application online may contact their local high school job bank office or the Clark County Human Resources Department at 702-455-4565. Program applications are available at clarkcountynv.gov under on the Human Resources Department page.

ENROLLMENT ASSISTANCE TO BE AVAILABLE FOR AFFORDABLE CARE ACT

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is partnering with East Valley Family Services to provide information and enrollment sessions at several libraries for the Affordable Care Act, commonly called Obamacare.

Enrollment assistance is set to be available from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

GARDENING CLASS TO DISCUSS PRUNING

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is offering a class titled Gardening in Small Places: Pruning from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 22 at the Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Road.

The $20 fee to attend includes class materials.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST TO BE SERVED AT LAS VEGAS SENIOR CENTER

A National Pancake Month celebration with pancakes, eggs, bacon, juice, coffee or tea for seniors 50 or older is scheduled from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Feb. 19 at Las Vegas Senior Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road.
