Game, sports book tour live up to hype

No event in sports is preceded by more hype than the Super Bowl. Some years, the buildup leads to a big letdown and a blowout. Early in the morning, I’m sensing this game will be a good one.

Underdog bettors profit as Manning takes fall

Instead of seeing more magic from Peyton Manning, we watched as the Super Bowl took a surprising twist. It was a fall from grace for the NFL’s favorite quarterback.

Decorated folders give area students privacy, encouragement while they write

Family photos and words of encouragement from mom and dad might seem like good ways to take the edge off a stressful test, but erecting decorated privacy walls on student desktops appears to conflict with Nevada testing procedures, which don’t leave much room for fun or creativity.

It had to be the shoes. The hat too. With the New Orleans Saints trailing the Indianapolis Colts 17-13 in the third quarter of Super Bowl XLIV, Anthony Trepagnier Jr., claimed he was the victim of a self-inflicted wardrobe malfunction. He went into the bedroom of his Las Vegas home on what is appropriately named Making Memories Place and changed into his black Saints shoes and donned a different Saints hat. When he returned, Drew Brees was leading the Saints on a scoring drive.

Positively Kids freely cares for most medically fragile children

Fred Schultz’s pitch is simple. If you have a medically fragile child who needs home health care or medical day care, or you need a break, Positively Kids has vacancies. Most of the care would be provided free by the little-known Las Vegas nonprofit.

Death of Yucca Mountain not worth a news release?

I find it shockingly unbelievable that so little coverage was given to the wonderful news that, thanks to Sen. Harry Reid and President Barack Obama, the Yucca Mountain Project is dead. I applaud Review-Journal columnist Jane Ann Morrison for speaking out about the fact that, shockingly, the city of Las Vegas didn’t find it worthy of a news release.

Gibbons, a Republican, called for layoffs of “several hundred” state employees and eliminating programs that don’t work. He asked state lawmakers to heed his call to debate major education reform.
