Swiss rock star ID’d as victim in I-15 crash

Swiss rock star Stefan “Steve” Lee, frontman for the band Gotthard, was identified as the motorcyclist killed Tuesday after being struck by a semitrailer while parked on Interstate 15 about 10 miles south of Mesquite. Lee, 47, died at the scene.

Tornados smash windows in northern Arizona

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Two tornadoes touched down in northern Arizona early Wednesday, smashing windows and ripping siding off of homes but causing no injuries.The first hit Bellemont – west of Flagstaff – around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday and the second touched down east of the small community a short time later. Severe weather is expected to continue through Wednesday.

Last puff: South African famed smoking chimp dies

JOHANNESBURG — Charlie the smoking chimpanzee has died. Qondile Khedama, a spokesman for the central South African city of Bloemfontein where Charlie had been a fixture at the small zoo, says the chimp died Tuesday, apparently of old age. Charlie was believed to be 52.

RFK-owned Emancipation Proclamation up for auction

NEW YORK — A copy of the Emancipation Proclamation signed by Lincoln and bought by Robert F. Kennedy, who drew inspiration from the document as he enforced civil rights legislation in the 1960s, is going up for auction and could fetch as much as $1.5 million. Kennedy bought the printed copy of the 1863 document declaring all slaves “forever free” shortly after its centennial celebration at the White House. His widow, Ethel, is offering it for sale Dec. 10 at Sotheby’s.
