Holiday craft fairs and bazaars in Las Vegas

It’s the time of year when local religious and nonprofit organizations host craft shows and bazaars to raise money for programs and events ranging from church missions to scholarships. For shoppers, that’s an invitation to hunt for handmade and crocheted items, jewelry, holiday decorations and religious items — not to mention the baked goods — far from crowded malls. Here is a list of organizations hosting charitable events into December.

Muslims in Las Vegas Valley pray for peace on Ramadan

On Saturday, hundreds of Las Vegas Muslims gathered at local mosques to break the first fast of Ramadan with prayers. And Imam Fateen Seifullah, a chairman at Al-Maun, a social arm of the Las Vegas Muslim community, said local Muslims are praying for peace in the country, the safety of Muslim-Americans and for a sense of unity.

When Ben Lesser saw the few seconds of film taken more than a half-century ago, he wasn’t sure what to think. The dark-haired guy in the film looked like him, or at least like Lesser used to look back in April 1945 when Dachau was liberated.
