With the stroke of a pen, President Barack Obama created more green on the Nevada map Friday when he signed a proclamation designating a 704,000-acre national monument conservation area in the state.

 
Heavy rain, flooding prompt call to stay off Charleston near Rainbow

A thunderstorm moving across the valley is causing flooding, hail and strong winds, the National Weather Service said. Parts of the valley are under a flash flood warning until 9:15 p.m., according to the weather service. The Las Vegas Fire Department is warning drivers not to use Charleston Boulevard from Rainbow Boulevard east due to flood water.

 
Former CCSD official receives prison term in theft case

A former Clark County School District official who admitted to stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the district will spend four to 10 years in prison and must pay back about $280,000.
