But that’s about to change for him and an estimated 1.7 million other young illegal immigrants expected to apply for a two-year work permit that will allow them temporary legal status in a country where they’ve lived most of their lives.

Extra study pays off for 314 August graduates

Students from 34 schools gathered Wednesday for the Clark County School District’s first summer graduation ceremony. The 314 seniors in caps and gowns made up their high school work in proficiency-exam boot camps and through credit-recovery tutoring to earn diplomas in August.

$246 million project eases I-15 traffic

It took more than a half million tons of gravel and asphalt, more than two years of work and almost a quarter billion dollars, but six miles of traffic jams on Interstate 15 south have become mostly smooth sailing. Las Vegas officers honored for meritorious service

What should have been a routine traffic stop in 2011 ended in a shootout in which Las Vegas police officer Patrick Burke killed a man who had served more than 13 years in prison for second-degree murder.
