Every Memorial Day we see heartfelt tributes to our troops and veterans. They’re worthy of year-round thanks, especially with so many current service members coming home from multiple combat tours.

I have been cooking in restaurants since I was 15 years old. I created Firefly Tapas Kitchen & Bar 10 years ago. Firefly, my labor of love, has come a long way since the early days, when every night I was the only guy working the line in the kitchen, sleeping on the couch in the office so I could wake up and get a jump on the prep for the next day’s service.

Both parties must work to fix system

“Obama Wants to Split the GOP,” “The Era of Partisanship Isn’t Over,” “The Senate and the House are on a Collision Course.” These are just a few of the foreboding headlines as immigration reform moves forward in the Senate. But while some may derive stories from conflict, I believe the comprehensive immigration proposal currently under consideration in the Senate is actually very much a product of bipartisanship.

Tax abatements: Look at the details

Southern Nevada’s economy has taken a beating over the past five years, so just about any news related to job creation is good news. To that end, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development Board last week approved tax abatements that are expected to create about 330 jobs around the state.
