Can they do it again? In some way, shape or form, this question will linger throughout the season. Who will step up on defense? Nate Schmidt was suspended 20 games and Shea Theodore remains unsigned. Who skates with Paul Stastny? Coach Gerard Gallant has options, including Erik Haula, Tomas Tatar and Alex Tuch. How will the bottom six forwards shake out? Ryan Carpenter and Oscar Lindberg are fighting for a spot on the third line. Will any rookies make the team. Cody Glass, Nick Suzuki, Erik Brannstrom and Nicolas Hague will get a long look in camp.

Trade war could impact tourism in Las Vegas

A looming trade war with China may threaten visitation from one of the fastest-growing tourist markets. Chinese tourists traveled overseas on 131 million times in 2017, a 7 percent increase from the previous year, according to the China National Tourism Administration. With trade tensions escalating between China and the U.S., some believe tourism numbers in Las Vegas could take a hit. Gary Hufbauer, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank, said a trade war’s biggest impact on Nevada would be a decline in wealthy Chinese travelers looking to gamble, an illegal activity in their home country. “My guess is that there will be many Chinese who will feel uncomfortable traveling to the United States if this trade war goes forward from here,” he said.

Elsewhere, Stewart-Haas Racing said it expects all four of its drivers — including Las Vegan Kurt Busch — will return in 2018. Dustin Ash won a 76-lap main event at the Night of Fire at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The team is getting closer to owner Brett Lashbrook’s vision of an attacking team. It still is 12th place in the standings though with 19 games to go. We need to win 11 times, we need 11 (more) wins. We need to be convinced of what we can do, and we need to play all of these games to win.
