2 deaths reported at North Las Vegas home where police killed man

Updated January 22, 2019 - 4:00 pm

Two deaths occurred at the same North Las Vegas address where a 37-year-old sexual assault suspect was shot and killed Monday by police.

Details of a possible second death had not been released until Tuesday morning, when the Las Vegas Review-Journal learned that the Clark County coroner’s office was investigating two separate deaths at a home on the 2100 block of Glider Street.

Officers were called to the neighborhood near North Fifth Street and East Lake Mead Boulevard on Monday to investigate a sexual assault, which was reported at the North Las Vegas Police Department’s south station at 2266 Civic Center Drive. When officers arrived on Glider Street, a man, believed to be the suspect in the sexual assault, fled the residence and jumped into a white four-door sedan parked in front of the residence, police said Tuesday.

The man ignored the officers’ commands to exit the vehicle and began ramming multiple vehicles in the area, including a police patrol vehicle, prompting multiple officers to open fire “to stop the immediate threat to themselves and to the public,” police said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured during the encounter.

While clearing the home following the shooting, officers found an adult victim dead inside the home. The coroner’s office said that person died in a bedroom.

Detectives on Tuesday were still working to determine whether the 37-year-old man was a suspect in the death, which is being investigated as a homicide. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday, according to police spokesman Eric Leavitt.

North Las Vegas police have responded to the home several times in the past, but not for one specific reason, Leavitt said. He did not elaborate further.

Details of the alleged sexual assault also were not immediately known, and Leavitt said it was not clear when it may have occurred.

The department is expected to release further details Thursday morning.
