Two pedestrians hospitalized after being hit by truck Wednesday morning

Two people are hospitalized after being struck by a truck Wednesday morning, Las Vegas police said.

The crash happened about 5:30 a.m. at South Rainbow Boulevard and Del Rey Avenue. Rainbow was closed to traffic in both directions between Charleston and Oakey boulevards, and Del Rey was closed west of Rainbow, but the streets have since reopened, the Metropolitan Police Department said.

A truck turning onto Del Rey from Rainbow struck the pedestrians, Metro Lt. David Gordon said. The pedestrians, Jerry and Flora Largusa, 56 and 57 respectively, were taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit, Metro said in a statement. Jerry Largusa sustained serious injuries; Flora Largusa sustained life-threatening injuries. Both are from Las Vegas.

The truck's driver, 37-year-old Las Vegan Nicholas Kennedy, remained at the scene and is not suspected of impairment, police said.
