Arrest made in drug-related Las Vegas homicide

Las Vegas police have made an arrest in a fatal July shooting said to be related to a marijuana deal in a central valley apartment, according to police documents.

Rio Stephone Jones, 21, is facing a murder charge in the shooting death of Rene Ernest Flores-Guevara, 33. He was arrested in Chicago and booked into the Clark County Detention Center Saturday. The circumstances behind the arrest were not immediately known.

Police say Jones shot Flores-Guevara after he demanded a refund for a marijuana buy. Multiple witnesses told police they saw Jones running from the scene.

Metro officers were first called about 6:30 p.m. July 31 to the Hills Lodge apartments in the 1500 block of Karen Avenue, near Maryland Parkway, where they found Guevara in an apartment with a gunshot wound to the head. He died Aug. 7 at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

On Aug. 3, Metro released surveillance video that showed two men and a woman, later identified as Jones, Sarai Ramsey and Marquez Herrod, at a nearby convenience store just before the shooting. Tipsters identified the trio and detectives learned that Jones had moved to Chicago and Ramsey to Oakland, Calif. after the shooting, police said. Ramsey has not been located, according to a criminal complaint. Herrod was not charged in connection with the killing.
