5 killed in fiery Chino, 3-vehicle crash

CHINO, Calif. — Authorities say five people were killed in a three-vehicle crash on the edge of Chino.

Chino police spokeswoman Monica Gutierrez said Saturday that officials were still identifying the dead from the crash that occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Friday on a rural two-lane road.

The incident was one of two deadly crashes that each claimed five lives in Southern California in less than 24 hours.

A crash after 2 a.m. Saturday in Irvine also killed five people.

Gutierrez says the lone survivor of the three-vehicle crash, who was in a Honda Civic, was released from the hospital.

She says the dead included four in a Chevy truck and one in a Honda Accord.

Police were investigating the cause.
