Nearly 300 ‘emergency incident’ calls on Fourth of July, Las Vegas fire officials say

Updated July 5, 2025 - 5:31 pm

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue responded to two injury calls and over 100 reports of outside fires Friday into Saturday over the Fourth of July holiday, according to a social media post.

From 6 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Saturday, the Las Vegas fire department responded to 116 calls about outside fires, seven reports of structure fires and two alerts about burn injuries, according to a post to the agency’s X account.

In a news release Saturday, the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada said it responded to eight house fires Friday and Saturday, which displaced 24 people.

Red Cross officials said the house fires happened in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson and Sloan and that fireworks were suspected to have caused at least one of the fires.

Including calls from partner agencies in the Las Vegas Valley, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue said it handled nearly 300 emergency incident calls and deployed nearly 470 units in response Friday and Saturday.

During the 10-hour period Friday into Saturday, nearly 1,200 emergency calls were made by residents, according to the agency.

According to a news release from the Metropolitan Police Department on Saturday, 149 people were cited for having illegal fireworks in Las Vegas from June 20 through Friday.

The release said a task force comprised of Metro, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, and Clark County Fire Department personnel confiscated over four tons of illegal fireworks during the 15-day period.

In North Las Vegas, city spokeswoman Kathleen Richards said fire officials responded to 142 incidents between 7 p.m. on Friday and 7 a.m. on Saturday.

That total included eight building fires in North Las Vegas — all of which were likely fireworks-related, she said — and four vehicle fires.

Richards said 74 calls were made during that period for medical assistance, including two that she classified as minor, but fireworks-related.
