Updated July 21, 2025 - 12:53 pm

The Nevada Highway Patrol investigated a crash Friday morning that left a man dead near the Las Vegas Strip.

According to the Highway Patrol, troopers responded at about 3:55 a.m. to a crash on southbound Interstate 15 south of Tropicana Avenue. Police said the crash involved one vehicle, and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Monday, the man was identified as 30-year-old Gregorio Portillo Jr., of Las Vegas, according to the Clark County coroner’s office. Portillo died of blunt forced injuries caused by a motor vehicle collision, the coroner said.

Troopers said in a news release Friday that a preliminary investigation showed a burgundy 1999 Chrysler Sebring convertible driven by Portillo had veered right and struck a concrete barrier wall on the west side of the I-15 collector-distributor lanes. The Sebring then veered left and struck the concrete barrier wall on the east side of the collector-distributor lanes, troopers said.

Portillo was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.
