Did you know that Hussong’s Cantina is the Home of the Original Margarita? The margarita was invented at the original Hussong’s Cantina in Ensenada, Mexico, by bartender Don Carlos Orozco in October 1941.
Orozco created a mix of equal parts tequila, Damiana and lime served over ice in a salt-rimmed glass for Margarita Henkel, daughter of the German ambassador to Mexico. While the story sounds unbelievable, it is the documented truth.
It is recorded by Ensenada’s Historical Society and was verified by Orozco and Henkel. Hussong’s Cantina keeps the tradition alive by serving the “Original Margarita” hand shaken with fresh ingredients.
