Critics and even some supporters have questioned the Nobel Committee's decision to award President Barack Obama the Nobel Peace Prize despite having been in office for less than a year. The Nobel Committee said despite his short tenure, Obama has made "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples," including his pledges to reduce the world stock of nuclear arms, ease U.S. conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthen the U.S. role in combating climate change.
