New SolarCity plant brings 60 jobs to Henderson

SolarCity has opened a new 18,000- square-foot facility in Henderson.

Dubbed the Henderson Operations Center, the company’s debut solar hub in Nevada serves as headquarters of roving installation crews and repair workers.

The opening of the center at 7370 Eastgate Road marks the expansion of SolarCity in Nevada as a service provider for the public. Before the center’s opening, SolarCity’s work in Nevada had been limited to contracts with homebuilders.

SolarCity began taking preorders for its solar services in May. Since then, the company has signed more than 1,500 customers. SolarCity expects to begin to installation for those customers in October. Officials say the new operations center will allow SolarCity to keep pace with the growing demand for solar in the state.

“It’s really exciting,” said Jonathan Bass, SolarCity’s vice president of communications. “This is an absolute no-brainer for the state.”

Self-proclaimed as the largest solar power provider in the nation, the company is adding 60 jobs to the more than 600 already dotting the Las Vegas Valley. The company plans to hire an additional 70 people and open a second operations center in Southern Nevada.

The Henderson center is the company’s first in Nevada, joining two Las Vegas locations that house the company’s executive divisions.

The operations center follows the heels of Assembly Bill 428, an initiative backed by Gov. Brian Sandoval and the Nevada Legislature to build a clean energy economy in Nevada and reopen the SolarGenerations program.

“SolarCity is bringing good jobs, building a new local industry and creating a brighter future for the entire region with their new Henderson Operations Center,” U.S. Rep. Joe Heck saidin a statement.
