Tornado slide a hit, Wet ’n’ Wild general manager says

The Wet ’n’ Wild attraction has two years under its belt. 5Q asked Takuya Ohki, the venue’s general manager, what he’s learned and what comes next.

Q: Wet ‘n’ Wild closed for the season Sept. 28. How did the season go?

A: This season went very well. We were able to bring the award-winning Tornado funnel slide that creates a zero gravity experience to Las Vegas this year — and it quickly became a park favorite, implement guest feedback from the inaugural year, and help guests create even more summer memories by hosting two concerts and other events and promotions. These provided some different ways for people to enjoy the park, particularly those with season passes. When our guests are happy, we are happy.

Q: What did you learn about the market?

A: Just like any other market, families are looking for wholesome activities, where they can have fun experiences and create lasting memories together. Las Vegas does not have many choices that are centered on family-friendly entertainment. Also, I realized that more jobs need to be available for teens and college kids. I am happy that we are able fulfill these important needs in our community in such a positive way.

Q: What was your biggest challenge?

A: Last year’s opening of a brand new water park has been the biggest challenge to date. However, implementing what we learned from our inaugural season and the improvements we made this year made this season much smoother with many happy and satisfied guests. If I had to think of one challenge for this year, it’s that we weren’t able to hire all the teens who would have liked to work here this summer. For many, the water park provides a great first job that I wish more could experience.

Q: What improvements/changes do you plan for next season?

A: We’re currently in the process of reviewing this season and evaluating guest feedback to make 2015 even better. Unfortunately, I cannot share anything just yet, but please stay tuned for exciting news as we always want to improve the park experience. One of the best ways to keep up to date with all the latest Wet ’n’ Wild news is to sign up for our newsletter online or “like” us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/wetnwildlasvegas.

Q: Thinking longer term, what issues keeps you up at night?

A: Wet ’n’ Wild is a great place for families to hang out together. We are constantly thinking of fun new ways for them to enjoy the park and how we can take their experience to the next level.
