Flavor Flav arrested in domestic disturbance; accused of threatening teen with knives

On the TV show "Flavor of Love" a group of women fought for the affection of Flavor Flav, hopeful the hip-hop personality would settle down in the name of true love.

Las Vegas police said a real-life lover's quarrel Wednesday morning between the rapper and reality TV star William Jonathan Drayton Jr., 53, and his fiancee led to his arrest on recommended charges of domestic battery and assault with a deadly weapon.

According to his arrest report, Drayton is accused of pushing to the ground his eight-year fiancee, Elizabeth Trujillo, 39, in their south valley home. The report said Drayton then got into a wrestling match with the woman's 17-year-old son. He followed the teenager upstairs while holding two knives and threatened his life, the report said.

Drayton is best known as the hype man for iconic hip-hop group Public Enemy. A new generation of fans recognize him for his appearances on VH1 reality shows. "Flavor of Love" last aired in 2008.

Police at 3:30 a.m. went to a home owned by Drayton and Trujillo on the 7800 block of Via Ventura Court, near Bermuda Road and Windmill Lane.

Upon arriving, officers heard arguing.

Trujillo told police the argument began because Drayton cheated on her.

The report said Drayton grabbed Trujillo and threw her to the ground twice. During the fight, Trujillo's left earring was ripped out, causing bleeding.

The report said Trujillo's son then came to his mother's defense and wrestled with Drayton in the living room. Drayton then grabbed two knives from the kitchen. The teen ran upstairs and locked himself in his sister's bedroom. The teen's sister was in the room, the report said.

While upstairs, Drayton kicked the bedroom's door open while holding the knives, and he threatened the teenage boy's life, the report said.

Police said Drayton confirmed most of the statements made to police by Trujillo and her son but denied chasing the teen and making threats on his life.

It wasn't the first run-in with police for Drayton. On July 4, he was cited for possession of fireworks and disturbing the peace. He has been cited for several traffic incidents and possession of less than an ounce of a controlled substance, police said.

Outside Las Vegas, Drayton spent a month in jail for assaulting his then-girlfriend in 1991 and three months in prison for shooting at a neighbor in 1993.

In March, Drayton opened Flavor Flav's House of Flavor. Review-Journal food critic Heidi Knapp Rinella gave the soul food takeout restaurant a C grade and criticized the fried chicken for "lack of flavor."

Drayton remained in custody at the Clark County Detention Center on Wednesday night on $23,000 bail. His first court hearing is set for today .
