Man arrested in tire slashings of 32 vehicles in Henderson

A Henderson man was arrested Saturday after police say he slashed tires on 32 vehicles in the area near Wigwam Parkway and Valle Verde Drive.
Andrew Y. Ayala, 24, is accused of the slashings in his own gated Grand Legacy neighborhood, Henderson police said.
Police could not determine a motive for the slashings.
Ayala was arrested on two felony counts of destruction of property and jailed on $50,000 bail in the Henderson Detention Center.
Henderson police were first called to a home on Indian Bend Drive about 1:50 a.m. by a resident reporting the tires on his car had been slashed.
Officers then found that 32 vehicles on Indian Bend Drive, Oakmarsh Drive, Grossinger Court, Alisal Court and Walden Court had tires slashed, with some having three or all four tires destroyed. Officers also found blood on some of the tires, an indication that the suspect had injured himself.
One of the victims reported seeing one of his neighbors out around the time of the tire slashings. Another resident had video from a surveillance camera that showed a suspect in a black suit walking up to a car and slashing the tires, police said.
Officers went to Ayala’s mother’s home where they saw a black suit jacket draped over the passenger seat of his sport utility vehicle in the driveway. Officers also saw a cut on his hand.
He later said he used a 5-inch straight blade knife and threw it in some bushes, police said.
Ayala probably will face additional charges, they said.
