Pedestrian killed in Thursday crash identified as World Series of Poker dealer
The Reno man who was killed on Thursday night after he was run over has been identified as a longtime World Series of Poker dealer.
Richard Turnbull, 86, was struck by a car around 9:30 p.m. when he was crossing Rainbow Boulevard south of Spring Valley Parkway. He was transported to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Turnbull was a dealer in the World Series of Poker for 38 years, according to the organization. A prepared statement praised him as “an American hero” for his service in the Navy during World War II.
“He was a very personable guy,” said Phil Miller, World Series of Poker tournament director. “He always remembered everyone’s name.”
Police said Turnbull was walking across Rainbow heading west when a southbound 1996 Honda Civic hit him. Turnbull was not using a crosswalk.
This was the 46th traffic-related fatality in Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction.
